Secure Microservices Communication in Cloud Environments Using Mutual TLS and Service Mesh
Abstract
Microservices architecture has become a standard for cloud-native applications, but securing inter-service communication remains a challenge. This paper proposes a secure communication framework for microservices using mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) within a service mesh. The framework automates the generation and rotation of cryptographic certificates, ensuring encrypted communication and service identity verification. Performance analysis shows that the proposed solution minimizes latency while maintaining high throughput and secure communication. The study highlights that integrating mTLS with a service mesh significantly enhances the security and resilience of microservices in cloud environments.
